Predictions for 2013 - What is Hot and What is Not
What is Hot and What is Not in Technology
for 2013
Top Winners Predicted for 2013
Each year we scratch our heads and come up with
trends or technology that we think will be hot in the
coming year. Checkout our list of What is Hot and What
is Not in 2013.
What is Hot in 2013
1. Cloud
The cloud is hotter than ever. Consumers are accustom
to retrieving documents using a variety of devices,
from a variety of locations. The cloud lends itself
to remote connectivity and collaborating with others,
my sense is the cloud is going to continue to grow in
the coming year.
2. Synched Applications
At one point in time, only the very coolest of applications
"synch" with data on a desktop computer, now synchronization
is a must! No one likes to reread email or update data,
applications that automatically sync with phone, desktop
and the cloud are the new standard in 2013.
3. Advanced Mobile
Mobile will continue to evolve and develop, phones will
continue to expand beyond cameras and basic communication
devices and become an even more integral part of daily
life in 2013.
4. Social, Social, Social
Reputation is the new currency, and it is unlikely to
change anytime soon. Social interaction will continue
to influence organic search and influence brand building.
5. Mobile Shopping / Price Comparison
The growing mobile trend that allows shoppers to immediately
price compare, will grow along with m-commerce and retail
shopping from your phone. Scanning tags in retail stores
for price checks will be the new standard.
6. Storage
Storage space will continue to grow, with the explosion
of multimedia, high resolution images and complex applications,
large storage capacity in a small footprint will be
hot in 2013.
7. Security
Unconventional warfare similar to what was seen with
the stuxnet worm will continue to develop and evolve
as security faces a new battleground in the cyberworld.
8. Virtual
The world is becoming virtual, online identities are
developing and pseudonyms are common place. To many
the online world has become their reality, I suspect
this will continue throughout 2013.
What is Not Hot in 2013
1. Decline of Paper
Newspaper, books, magazines and the postal service are
all under fire, due to their failure to adapt to changing
times.
2. Retail
Sadly brick and mortar stores that have failed to adapt
and master the online world will struggle to survive.
Conventional retail stores will have to adopt a bricks
and clicks plan to effectively compete in today's commerce
market.
3. Transparancy
With eyes in the sky and information overload you would
think that transparancy would be hot, but my inclination
is that transparancy will continue to be elusive in
2013.
