Free Tools to Monitor Your Brand
Reputation Monitoring

There are a number of things that you
can do to monitor your online brand, as well as monitoring
the brand of a competitor. Being aware of what is said,
and when it is being said, will allow you to react in
a timely fashion. It is often a company's reaction to
negative media that leaves the biggest impression. In
order to turn a negative into a positive, you must first
be aware that a conversation is taking place. Fortunately,
there are a number of free tools that can assist companies
with brand monitoring...
Addict-O-Matic
Addict-O-Matic monitors various news and
search sites on the web, including Google, Yahoo, Technorati,
Ask, YouTube, Truveo, Flickr, Blinkx, Ice Rocket, Digg,
Topix, Newsvine, and Tweetscan. Addict-O-Matic helps
subscribers follow hot topics, as well as performing
ego searches (see below for more information about "ego
searches"). The results are compiled in an RSS feed
for continuous monitoring.

Social Mention
Social Mention is a service that monitors
blogs and question-and-answer sites. Social Mention
sends emails containing the latest relevant social media
results (blog, microblog, etc.) based on the search
phrase.

Kurrently
Kurrently is a real-time search engine
for Facebook and Twitter, which allows you to set up
search feeds. For those subscribers who wish to receive
the search results via an RSS feed, they do ask those
subscribers to pay as much or as little as they would
like.

BoardTracker
BoardTracker is an innovative forum search
engine. BoardTracker is designed to provide relevant
information quickly and efficiently, while helping to
ensure that you never miss an important forum thread,
no matter where or when it is posted.

HowSociable
HowSociable provides a simple way for
visitors to begin measuring a brands visibility on
the social web. Simply enter a search phrase or brand
name, and HowSociable will assign numbers for the "sociability"
of the phrase or name. The higher the number, the better.
You can enter your email address to have the sociability
tracked over a period of time.

ChangeDetection
ChangeDetection provides a free page change
monitoring and notification service to Internet users
worldwide. Subscribers can use the service to monitor
any website page for changes. ChangeDetection will create
a change log for the page, and alert subscribers by
email when they detect a change in the page text.

Google Alerts
Google alerts is a free service provided
by Google, which will send you an email message any
time a keyword, phrase, or brand appears in a new blog
post, webpage, or news story. Subscribers create an
account and monitor a variety of terms. Alerts can be
customized for the type of media that the subscriber
wishes to monitor, how often notifications should be
sent, and the volume of notification for each search
phrase.

Yotify
Yotify is a free tool to monitor job postings,
classifieds, YouTube postings, blogs posts, shopping,
and news. Subscribers need to set up an account in Yotify.

BackType
BackType is an analytics platform that
helps companies understand their social impact. This
system is currently in beta, but it looks promising.

MonitorThis
MonitorThis searches 25 different search
engines for new entries, using a keyword. Subscribers
can subscribe to the results in an RSS feed.

48ers.com searches Twitter, Facebook,
Google Buzz, Digg, Delicious and other social networks
across the web. Unfortunately, at this time there does
not appear to be any way to save the search in an RSS
feed for continuous monitoring.

Twazzup is a real-time news platform that
filters the news out of Internet content. The engine
appears fast, but the results can not be saved in a
search feed for long term monitoring.

Twitter, the most popular micro-platform
for social media, allows visitors to create a search
feed and save the results as an RSS feed.

Trackur
Trackur has a free service (in addition
to fee-based services) that allows subscribers to actively
monitor the web for new mentions of a keyword. The free
version of Trackur only allows 1 single saved search
at a time.

Yahoo! Alerts
With Yahoo! Alerts, subscribers can monitor
Yahoo search results for news, fantasy sports, missing
children, RSS feeds, blogs, horoscopes, jobs, sports,
travel, stocks, or weather. In order to use Yahoo! Alerts,
visitors will need a Yahoo ID if they do not already
have one.

YackTrack
YackTrack is a free comment tracking tool.
Subscribers that comment on a blog post can find other
people that are commenting on the post, and join the
conversation on other sites. YackTrack currently supports

Search, Google Reader, Identi.ca, IntenseDebate, Mixx,
Reddit, StumbleUpon, Technorati, Twitter, TypePad/MoveableType
and WordPress blogs.

Conversation Tracker creates a threaded
view of blog conversations based on posts and links

FriendFeed is a social aggregator. Subscribers
have the ability to take all social accounts, such as
