ID3 Optimization

What Are ID3 Tags?
ID3 Tags contain the meta data behind
an audio file. Search engines read the meta data in
an attempt to classify the audio content contained in
the audio file. ID3 tags are often used in conjunction
with MP3 files, as they allow information such as the
Title, Artist, Album, Track Number, and other information
about the file to be stored within the file itself.
What Is Really Contained In An ID3
Tag?
Audio search engines are increasing in
popularity, but most search engines are text based and
have a difficult time discerning the content contained
inside an audio file. This is where the ID3 tags come
into play. ID3 tags are sort of like fingerprints for
audio files.
The maximum size for an ID3 tag is 256
megabytes and maximum frame size is 16 megabytes. The
ID3 tag contains 39 pre-defined frames including copyright,
content type, dates, content information, and space
for files such as pictures. ID3 tags can contain lyrics
and complete transcriptions of text. ID3 tags for podcasts
will often contain full text transcripts of the podcast
show.
How Do You Optimize ID3 Tags?
Many audio recording applications have
built-in ID3 tag editors, but they often lack the full
capacity and number of fields that are included in a
stand-alone ID3 editor. In order to effectively optimize
ID3 tags, use keywords and phrases in the tag title
and description.
What To Include In Your ID3 Tags?
If you are preparing ID3 tags for a podcast,
be sure to include the podcast name, title, comments,
URL, perhaps song lyrics, or podcast transcript.
Why Use ID3 Tags?
Audio search engines often spider the
ID3 tags and extract keywords in an attempt to categorize
and index the audio files. By optimizing ID3 tags, you
are assured that your audio file or podcast will be
found in an audio search engine when a related search
is conducted.
