2009 Marketing Resolutions
Marketing Resolutions
By Sharon Housley
1. Update AdWords
I use SharewarePromotions http://www.sharewarepromotions.com
, which is absolutely fantastic, for managing my important
AdWords campaigns. I have become complacent and no longer
really understand the intricacies of a modern AdWords
campaign. I need to delve into AdWords in 2009, and
gain a better understanding of the system. This way,
I can effectively use it as a marketing and advertising
channel for all of our products and services.
2. Niche Marketing
In 2009, I intend to focus more on niche
marketing. Nowadays, general marketing on the Internet
is incredibly ineffective. Success on the Internet
all comes down to targeting.
3. Review Keywords
Google Suggest has influenced the way
that average users search for items and as a result
keyword lists really need to be reviewed and updated.
Many searchers expand their search for suggested phrases,
meaning these phrases are even more valuable than the
generic terms once were. Updating optimization to incorporate
keyword phrases used in Google Suggest has been on my
'to do' list for quite some time.
4. Use Social Network
Social networks and democracy on the
Internet has become a collective force. Understanding
and utilizing the power of these social networks is
a must for 2009.
5. Explore Alternative Mediums
We have seen a rapid rise in the adoption
of rich media as an alternative medium for content distribution,
and it is unlikely to go away any time soon. Exploring
alternative advertising and rich media as a marketing
channel is at the top of on my to do list for 2009.
6. Explore Alternative Distribution
Channels
While we began this process in 2008, it
still requires a lot more attention. I intend to explore
alternative channels for selling through affiliates
and large distribution portals like Amazon.
7. Automate / Implement Effective Systems
Time is a precious commodity, and implementing
effective systems and processes that automate mundane
tasks will help minimize time lost in 2009. Every year
I spend time on automation and never regret the time
it takes to put the systems in place. Automation is
a no-brainer!
8. Participate
The Internet is becoming a huge online
conversation. The Internet is no longer a flat medium,
it is interactive, and I must make more of an effort
to participate and engage in the coming year.
9. Follow
DoFollow blogs and forums are great resources
for backlinks. I intend to explore niche dofollow blogs
and forums as a channel to increase backlinks in the
coming year.
10. Get Creative
Online marketing was once a haven for
creativity, and it has become somewhat mundane and predictable
as people try to break it down into cookie-cutter marketing.
Out of the box marketing still has a place on the Internet,
and with some creativity I think online marketing can
enter a new phase in 2009.
I have a plan for marketing that I intend
to take forward. If I become distracted I can always
take a look back and refocus my efforts where they need
to be.
